Harnessing The Energy Of Late Spring In Our Creative Practices

Here in the northern hemisphere, we are approaching Beltane and warmer weather. Aside from the allergies, I love late spring. Flowers are blooming, the trees smell amazing, and my hands are touching soil most days while I plant seedlings in the garden.

One thing I’ve been really passionate about since embracing my creativity and starting my art business, is the idea of creating with the seasons. Earth is the original Creatrix after all…and I think each season holds different energies that help us on our creative journey.

This spring I have really enjoyed exploring with watercolors. I’ve still been weaving…but with the warmer weather, I haven’t been wanting to reach for yarn and wool quite as much. They feel like such fall and winter materials to me! The flow of watching water and pigment spread across paper is so satisfying to my soul right now. I’ve also been focused on my garden and getting dye flowers planted. This is my first time planting a dye garden…I’m excited but nervous because I’ve never had much of a green thumb!

I’ve also been enjoying taking my art projects outside and working on them there. The fresh spring air has brought so much inspiration and new ideas with it…sometimes I feel overwhelmed with everything I want to accomplish.

Today I created a guided meditation for late spring that can help creatives sort through their ideas, and focus on the ones that are most important. It’s something that has helped me with all of the ideas and projects that have been rushing through my mind since the beginning of spring, and focus on what I want to nurture through the summer months when creative energy is high. Right now is a good time to decide which seeds (ideas & Inspiration) are worthy of planting and nurturing as they grow into their full potential.

I think it’s important to remember that we all have our own seasons of life, and it’s okay if you are in a creative rut right now or just not feeling any inspiration. Working with the energies of the seasons has its own nuances, so don’t get down on yourself if ideas aren’t flowing to you at this time. We all go through this at some point on our creative path.

Beltane is approaching for us here in the northern hemisphere…it’s on Wednesday May 1st. Beltane represents planting time, and the halfway mark between spring equinox and summer solstice. It represents longer, warmer days, abundance, fertility, joy, and pleasure. It’s a great time to do spells or rituals for abundance, love, and fertility. Some common ways to celebrate Beltane are dancing around a maypole, having a bonfire, and decorating your altar with flowers, greenery, or other representations of late spring.

How will you be honoring, celebrating, and creating with the energies of late spring this year?
